Spring Restaurant week expands to ten days!

Salem Spring Restaurant Week will kick off on Sunday, April 3, featuring the best local cuisine at value pricing.  For 10 days only, participating Salem area restaurants will offer either a two-course prix-fix dinner menu for $15, or a three-course prix-fixe dinner menu for $25, or both (note that this price does not include drinks, taxes or gratuities).

Salem has become a culinary destination and people really look forward to this event. Expect a wide variety of delicious foods - from steak to seafood, American to ethnic, there is something for everyone. 
 
Restaurants offer multiple choices for appetizers, entrees as well as deserts.  Reservations are encouraged, please contact the restaurants directly. Mention "Restaurant Week" when making your reservations.

Sensational India at the PEM

Each year the Peabody Essex Museum celebrates Indian culture during one fantastic weekend of dance, music, art, workshops, film, and family program.  This year, Sensational India arrives in Salem on April 2nd and 3rd.

Visit pem.org for complete listings of events, and make reservations and buy tickets as appropriate.  Some of the programs have already sold out.  If you're looking for some good old fashioned (hah!) Bollywood entertainment, don't miss the Sensational Bollywood Dance Party on April 2nd.

Spring Brunch & Fashion Show at Signatures

Spring must be on its way, because the Signatures Spring Fashion Show is coming up... this Sunday! 

This is a great way to check out the new spring fashions from French Dressing Jeans, Tribal, Duak, Avalin, and all of the lines Signatures carries. 

And there's brunch, too!! 

Doors open at 11:00 AM, Brunch will be served at 12:00 noon, and the fashion show is at 1:00 PM.  Come see real women model great clothes while enjoying a lovely brunch.

A creative take on St. Pat's

The Lyceum is doing St. Patrick's Day as only the Lyceum could... with a food pairing dinner!  This sounds like a great way for us foodies to get our green on come this Thursday!

St. Patrick's Day specials, created by Chef de Cuisine Lee Fannon, will include Rabbit with Mustard & Leeks with Roasted Root Vegetables and Irish Stout Lamb and Barley Stew.  These specials have been created to pair with O'Hara's Irish Red and Irish Stout.  These specials will run through the weekend, and will be joined by the classic Corned Beef & Cabbage on the 17th.

Chef Antonio Bettencourt Revisits His Culinary Roots for Special Prix Fixe Wine Dinner at 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar

WHAT:                      Chef Antonio Bettencourt has been racking up accolades and awards for his modern take on regional Italian classics at his restaurant 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar in Salem, MA. But Bettencourt’s culinary roots actually began in regional French cuisine. Working with Chef Amanda Lydon, first at Metro Brasserie and then at Upstairs on the Square, where he served as the executive sous chef to both Lydon and Chef Susan Regis, Chef Bettencourt was distinctly French-focused before moving to Italian cuisine later in his career.

                                   

On Sunday, March 27^th, 2011 from 6:30PM-8:30PM, Chef Bettencourt will return to his culinary roots as he presents “Bienvenue au 62” a special Burgundy wine dinner in partnership with the French Cultural Center of Boston and Destination Salem. The three course food & wine pairing will take guests on a virtual gastronomical journey to the French culinary hub. Guests can learn more about French culture with information provided by the French Cultural Center, and for those new to Salem, MA, Destination Salem will be providing information to guests about what’s on tap this spring and summer for the seaside town.

Dead Man's Cell Phone

An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. 

A stranger at the next table who has had enough. 

And a dead man—with a lot of loose ends.

Dead Man's Cell Phone is our latest must-see show at the Salem Theatre Company.  Written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by John Fogle, the play has been called, “a fresh and humorous look at the times we live in” by Variety and “vital” in its “lyrical and biting takes on how we behave” by the Washington Post.

Ruhl’s play is satirical look at how we “connect” in today's wired world. It is the comic odyssey of a lonely woman who, looking for love in all the wrong places, embarks on an adventure involving smuggling, international intrigue and time-travel… and triumphs!

The production will feature an original score by Salem-based Richard Lewis (Machine 475).
