Classic Postcards

A book of souvenir postcards found its way from an antique shop in New York State to Destination Salem's office, and they are great pictures, so I am sharing them here. They are proof that many of Salem's assets lie in the beautifully preserved history and historical structures.

I don't have a date for the postcards - if anyone has a sense of when the illustrations were done, please share! There are about a dozen images, which I will share a few at a time over the next few weeks.
East India Marine Hall, which is part of the present day Peabody Essex Museum, is above. The House of the Seven Gables is below. Both buildings remain unchanged today. I love the clothing shop to the right of East India Marine Hall - evidence of the vibrant shopping district that Essex Street once was. In fact, the first Filene's store was opened just up the street from East India Marine Hall, in the building that is today the Peabody Essex Museum's office building.
